What if the claimant does not speak English or French?

A claimant can choose to have their hearing at the Refugee Protection Division in either English or French.

If the claimant does not speak and understand English or French fluently, they can ask the Immigration and Refugee Board to provide an interpreter. Most likely, the claimant will have made this request on their Basis of Claim Form.
