Sending in the application and waiting

Applicants should keep copies of the forms that they send in, all the accompanying documents, and proof that they paid the fees.

For those who are in Canada, the application will be processed in Canada. Family members outside of Canada who are included in the application will be contacted by the Canadian visa office responsible for the area where they are living. They will not be issued visas to come to Canada until the visa office is notified that the applicant in Canada has been granted permanent residence. If there are minor children outside Canada who are in an unsafe situation, especially if they are not in the care of an adult relative, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) can take steps to bring them here faster.
