Tips – PREVIOUS PROTECTION CLAIMS section
Here, the claimant must list refugee claims made in any country by any of the relatives listed in Question 5. They must also include information about any refugee claim that they themselves have made in another country.
If they, or any of their relatives, applied to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to be recognized as a refugee, they must provide that information here.
The claimant should try to get copies of documents relating to any of these claims. If the claimant has a family member who made a refugee claim in Canada, the Immigration and Refugee Board will probably try to look up the file on that claim. They will compare the information in that file to the claimant’s Basis of Claim. The claimant will have to explain any contradictions or inconsistencies.
